ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Peter Hyde, you can also call me Bumi (thunder) it’s my tribal name. I would love to welcome you to Cairns, and tell you about my people and share stories.

Bio Uncle Peter Hyde ‘Bumi (Thunder)’ is a revered elder statesman and a pivotal figure within the Yidindji Nation, he is a former teacher’s aide and is a key figure in cultural affairs & educating Yidindji children about traditional knowledge systems. Born into the esteemed Yidindji blue fig society and as a bloodline heir to the Yidindji estate, Uncle Peter’s leadership is deeply rooted in his heritage and ancestral lineage.

Uncle Peter’s commitment to peace and order stems from a rich familiar tradition of senior lawmen within the Yidindji tribe. Influenced by the wisdom and teachings passed down by his father and grandfather, both esteemed figures in Yidindji governance, he has dedicated his life to upholding justice and maintaining societal harmony within the nation.
